HONG KONG, 14 December 2023 ‒ AirAsia X (AAX) today celebrated its inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur, marking the medium-haul airline’s first direct route to and from the cosmopolitan city.
The inaugural flight departed from Hong Kong International Airport at 3:30PM and landed at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (Terminal 2) at 7:25PM local time. All guests on this inaugural flight were given special AirAsia merchandise, adding an extra touch of excitement to their journey.
Hong Kong marks AAX’s 22nd route overall and the 8th route in Greater China which further develops the airline’s vast network and commitment to expanding its services in the region. This milestone reflects AAX's strategic focus on connecting key destinations and fostering increased accessibility for travellers from Greater China to Asean and beyond.
AAX flies the A330 aircraft with a maximum seating capacity of 377 seats. Importantly, this new route launch marks the very first time the larger widebody aircraft will be operating in the Hong Kong market, providing more capacity for passengers in the Greater Bay Area, to explore Southeast Asia or even fly further to Maldives, Bali, Perth, Gold Coast and to many more popular destinations. Setting itself apart from other existing AirAsia flights on the same route, AAX offers three different cabin options, including the immensely popular Premium Flatbed, Quiet Zone, and Standard Cabin, providing more value and choice for guests than ever before.
AirAsia X Malaysia CEO, Benyamin Ismail said: “We are excited to commence our inaugural services to/from Hong Kong which complement the existing flights operated by AirAsia Malaysia (flight code AK). As an airline that continues to grow where we see greatest demand, we are pleased to provide more accessibility to popular cities including Hong Kong. With these daily flights, we are increasing travel capacity and providing a welcome boost to tourism both ways, as well as encouraging travellers to explore new horizons on our vast network. We look forward to increasing the flight frequencies based on demand in the future.”
In celebration of this inaugural flight, AAX is offering a special flash deal to enable everyone to fly further with better value from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur where guests can book the award-winning Premium Flatbeds from HKD1,088*, exclusively on airasia Superapp and the website.
This launch offer is available for three days, starting tomorrow, 15 to 17 December 2023, for the travel period between 15 December 2023 and 29 February 2024. Additionally, travellers can also enjoy a 30% discount on selected seats options*, including Standard Seats, Quiet Zone and Hot Seats.
AirAsia as a group currently operates direct flights from Hong Kong/Macao to Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. With the addition of AAX, there will now be more than 130 weekly flights to Bangkok (Don Mueang), Chiang Mai, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Penang and Manila.
