AirAsia to get Malaysians home this week with special flight

SYDNEY, 6 August 2020 - AirAsia will operate a special passenger flight between Melbourne and Kuala Lumpur later this week offering Malaysians an affordable way to get home amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The inbound (KUL to MEL) flight will operate as cargo only however, the outbound flight (MEL to KUL) will offer limited seats across both the airline’s economy and flatbed sections.

AIRASIA SPECIAL FLIGHT SCHEDULE

06Aug KUL - MEL  STD 06:10LT  STA 16:00 (cargo only)

07Aug MEL - KUL  STD 07:30LT  STA 14:10 - (passengers and cargo)

AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said, “We’ve missed connecting our two countries over the past few months and it will be great to see us back in Australian skies with these special flights.”

“We know there are Malaysians in Australia wanting to get home and we’re now able to provide them with this flight which will see them back by the end of the week.

“There are strictly limited seats available on each flight and tickets are available at airasia.com. It’s important that anyone booking a flight meets the departure and entry requirements of both countries.

“While we’ve been unable to welcome guests onboard in recent times, cargo has been an important part of our business during the pandemic and since March we have operated a number of flights containing freight such as medical supplies and local exports from Australia.

“AirAsia has a dedicated logistics subsidiary, Teleport, which means we’re well equipped to offer cargo flights in lieu of our usual passenger services.”
