AirAsia X Berhad 2Q19 Preliminary Operating Statistics

AirAsia X Berhad (“AirAsia X” or “the Company”) is pleased to announce its operating statistics for the second quarter of 2019 (“2Q19”).

The Company recorded Passenger Load Factor (“PLF”) of 80%, marginally down by 1 percentage point (“ppt”) year-on-year (“YoY”). The number of passengers carried during the quarter stood at 1,455,052 passengers, a decline of 7% YoY from 1,568,578 in the same quarter last year. In this historically lean quarter, the Company’s Available Seats per Kilometre (“ASK”) was reduced by 6% YoY to 8,442 million on the back of seasonal capacity management and current operation of shorter stage routes as compared to prior year.

During the quarter under review, AirAsia X Malaysia commenced direct flights from Kuala Lumpur to Lanzhou, the Company’s fourth unique route in the Greater China region. Capacity management was executed on the Gold Coast and Taipei in 2Q19, in-line with the Company’s long term objective for network optimisation and to reconcile capacity to Gold Coast post-termination of Auckland in February 2019. Frequency to Honolulu was temporarily reduced to 4 times weekly in April 2019 due to lean season, but increased back to 7 times weekly beginning May 2019. The fleet size of AirAsia X Malaysia remains at 24 A330s as at the end of June 2019.

On the associates, AirAsia X Thailand carried a total of 541,509 passengers, rising by 12% YoY. ASK Capacity was recorded at 3,229 million, an increase of 32% YoY as compared to last year’s 2,453 million. This came on the back of additional seat capacity and inauguration of new routes during the quarter, namely Shenyang and Tianjin in China, as well as Brisbane, which serves as AirAsia X Thailand’s first venture into Australia. These factors led to AirAsia X Thailand posting a PLF of 76% as the new routes remain in a phase of infancy. AirAsia X Thailand’s fleet size remains at 10 A330s as at the end of June 2019.

AirAsia X Indonesia’s operations of scheduled flights remain in suspension. Its fleet of two A330s have been arranged for wet lease commencing 1st of July 2019. The total fleet size of AirAsia X Group is 36 Airbus A330s as at the end of June 2019, including 4 aircraft which are on direct third-party lease to AirAsia X Thailand.
