AirAsia takes off to Hua Hin, Thailand

The welcoming ceremony for flight AK830 Kuala Lumpur-Hua Hin on 18 May 2018 was led by Mr. Pairin Chuchotethavorn, Deputy Minister of Transport, Mr. Daroon Saengchai, Director General of the Department of Airports, Mr. Panlop Singhaseni, Governor of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, Mr. Nopporn Wuttikul, Mayor of Hua Hin, Ms. Walailak Noypayak, TAT Director for ASEAN market, Mr. Apisit Ubolkomu, Director of Hua Hin Airport and Ms. Witchunee Kuntapeng, Director of Ground Operations for Thai AirAsia, representing AirAsia, alongside representatives of several government agencies.

SEPANG, 18 May 2018 – AirAsia celebrated its inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to the stylish coastal town of Hua Hin, Thailand today at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (klia2).

The two-hour flight departed from klia2 at 10.00am with 93 percent load and was sent off by Spencer Lee, Head of Commercial, AirAsia Malaysia. The four times weekly direct flight marks the seventh route to Thailand by AirAsia from Kuala Lumpur.

The inaugural flight was welcomed with water cannons as it landed at Hua Hin Airport. Guests were also welcomed by Mr. Pairin Chuchotethavorn, Deputy Minister of Transport Thailand; Mr. Nopporn Wuttikul, The Mayor of Hua Hin; Mr. Daroon Saengchai, Director General, Department of Airports Thailand, and other VIP.

Spencer Lee, Head of Commercial, AirAsia Malaysia said, “Last year, we carried about 1.3 million guests from Kuala Lumpur to Thailand, proving The Land of Smiles as one of the most popular holiday spots in our list of over 130 destinations. Today, we couldn’t be more pleased to introduced Hua Hin to our guests and importantly, we are excited to introduce Hua Hin to its first direct international route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. With over 93 percent guest flying on the inaugural flight, we hope that this unique route will further boost the economic, cultural and social ties between Malaysia and Thailand.”

Mr. Pairin Chuchotethavorn, Deputy Minister of Transport Thailand indicated the Thai government has set plans to develop Hua Hin Airport with an aim to increase its capability in accommodating travelers as well as commercial airlines to attract more tourists. “AirAsia Malaysia’s introduction of 4 weekly flights today (18 May 2018) is a strong start for the government’s effort and was fully supported by the Ministry of Transport.”

AirAsia currently operates 165 weekly flights one way to Thailand from Kuala Lumpur. In addition to Hua Hin, the airline also flies to six other routes such as Bangkok (80 times weekly), Phuket (35 times weekly), Krabi (21 times weekly), Hat Yai (7 times weekly), Chiang Mai (14 times weekly), and Pattaya  (4 times weekly).
